Wills clear winner of first debate

Wills highlights achievements, job creation amidst “subtle jabs, vague attacks”

Little Rock, April 27th, 2010 – Speaker Robbie Wills took his message of job creation and focusing on our nation’s economy to a larger stage Tuesday night at the first debate in the AR-02 Democratic primary. Speaker Wills also used the night to highlight some of his legislative achievements including: cutting the grocery tax, creating a trauma system, and expanding the coverage of Arkids First.  He also addressed the points of his jobs plan and asked those in the crowd to visit ArkansasJobsPlan.com.

“Let’s focus on what we are going to do about creating jobs,” said Wills.  “We need to move forward, not waste time in the past. We need to create jobs for all Arkansans.”

“The debates are an opportunity for the voters to learn about these candidates,” said Wills for Congress Campaign Manager Kyle Gott.  “Tonight they learned that Speaker Wills is the only candidate concerned with creating jobs and fixing our country’s economy.  The other candidates treated him like the front runner.”

The debate lasted more than an hour and addressed several issues, including immigration, clean energy, financial reform, and the current economic crisis.  An estimated crowd of more than 100 attended the public debate.

“Instead of trying to help 100,000 out of work Arkansans, our opponents spent the night attempting subtle jabs and vague attacks,” said Gott. “Speaker Wills clearly won on style and substance. One candidate said that we need someone who can win in November.  I agree. After tonight’s performance it’s clear that person is Speaker Robbie Wills.”
